Who Should Play for DCYFC

Players

  • who are motivated to enhance their abilities and play at a higher level than saturday recreation "beehive" kickball.
  • who want to play two-touch soccer, move to space, improve their game understanding and learn from outstanding coaches.
  • who have not been chosen for "select" teams.  You have shown the interest and dedication that is required.  Perhaps you need more training or were overlooked.  We are on a mission to create dynamic footballers -- join us!
  • who are "burned out" from the "travel" soccer experience.
  • who want to make continued advancements and those with the ambition to play in high school.
  • who want to play with other committed and talented players.
  • who want to have a multi-cultural and diverse experience.

Seeking

Boys and girls ages 6 to 17 who are interested in playing at a higher level

The key ingredient is a commitment to learn and strong motivation to train.  We'll improve your skills but it is up to you.  Our motto is "You play the way you train."
What We Want to Accomplish
  • Our Board of Directors and coaches are committed to improving your soccer skills, your tactical understanding of the game and playing "total futbol."
  • The term "total futbol" was coined by Holland and played by the Dutch teams of the 1970's.  The late Johan Cruyff, the Dutch master, used this philosophy in creating what is the current style of FC Barcelona futbol.
  • While we don't expect to accomplish the Barcelona way, you will learn how to play what is known around the world as the "beautiful game."
  • Our roster of DCYFC players -- ranging in age from 6 to 17 --are gifted and developing good skills and habits.

Come join us in playing "the beautiful game."

DCYFC of course wants to win its matches.  But the greater goal is for our players to achieve their objectives and ambitions.  The only way to accomplish this is through 100% effort and commitment.

As role models, our DCYFC coaches are mentors.  They instill self-confidence, self-esteem, self-belief and a feeling of accomplishment.  These are the attributes needed to succeed off the field where 99.9% of you will find success in your chosen academic and professional careers.

We name many of our teams after countries or for local and international significance.  The team is not a color.  It's a name of significance, importance -- and instills an identity.

Is it likely our players will move on to play with these clubs and national teams?   No, and that is not the point.

A main focus is to give our players confidence, demonstrate teamwork and camaraderie and achieve something through shared work and commitment.
                                                   Going Forward

It is important to understand that if your ambition is to make a "select" soccer team, then it begins with more professional-level training.  It is not a reasonable expectation for a U8, U9, U10, U11 or U12 recreational player to make the jump and be selected at a U10/U11/U12 "select" tryout.

First, it is very difficult to be noticed among the crowd of players at a 1 1/2 hour tryout.  Second, coaches are looking for players better than the ones currently on the roster.  If you don't show it, there's no reason to be selected over a current roster player.  Third, "select" kids have been doing intensive training for one or two years.

In recreation soccer, that type of training is typically unavailable and kids tend to be less focused in that environment.  You are already behind and it is difficult to make-up.  Lets face it -- soccer in the DC area is extremely competitive and you need to understand what it takes to make it to the next level.

Playing Saturday recreation kick-ball -- as we call it -- is detrimental to your skill development and game understanding.  While we applaud parents spending one hour per week to play recreation soccer, if you haven't played extensively, studied the game, understand the game inside the game, understand the rules and know how to teach and develop technical and tactical skills then the training will not be productive.

Even by the age of 8, our coaches immediately recognize the lack of training and discipline.  It is a significant disadvantage when competing against DCYFC players.  Trying to fix bad habits learned in recreational matches and "practices" expends lots of time and effort.  Believe it or not, it often determines whether a player can achieve selection to a 2011 DCYFC premier team.

The DCYFC Development Program can help you achieve your dreams through your own commitment, motivation and hard work.  We think you will enjoy the training methods and the atmosphere.  Come and join us!!
