OVERVIEW

SELECT TEAMS

DCYFC has two programs.  One is "Select Teams" and the other is the "Development Program."

"SELECT" TEAMS are established based on tryouts and players are chosen or "selected" to play in a specific age group and compete in State-Sanctioned Leagues with Player Passes.

WHAT ELSE ABOUT SELECT TEAMS

This is the same exact thing as a premier team or so-called "travel" teams.  Players are selected based on their current or potential ability to play in one of several competitive leagues in the DC metro area.

OTHER NAMES USED TO MARKET PROGRAMS

Some large for-profit, private corporate soccer organizations and other large clubs in DC and the surrounding area create "All-Stars", "Future Stars", "Premier Academy" or "Select Academy" teams or programs.

Examine the product you are purchasing just like you would do with anything else.  Look at the details, is it comparable or can you get better quality at less cost elsewhere?  You will find by examining what DCYFC has to offer, you will get a better product for less expense.

These other so called "All-Stars" or "Future Stars" programs rely mostly on non-professional parent coaches for training.  While we applaud parents wanting to be involved in their kids sports activities, it is not the way to improve their soccer skills.  You will not be getting your money's worth.

Our coaches have played the game competitively, know the rules, know how to train and understand how to coach a match.

These are just names and marketing tools for you to pay more.

Leagues are either competitive "Travel" (i.e. Select or Premier teams) or "Recreation".

There is no such thing as an intermediate level team, program or league (ie. between travel and recreation) in the DC area unless an individual club has created a hybrid and plays in a in-house league.

Unless MSYSA or VSYSA player passes are issued, players on
"All-Star" or "Future Star" teams are ineligible to guest play with any other club teams participating in state-sanctioned tournaments.

Competitive leagues are sanctioned by a state soccer association, player passes are issued by state soccer associations and leagues maintain standings.

Competitive leagues are also granted permission by state soccer associations to host tournaments and results are used to rank teams by state, region and nationally.

At DCYFC, we tell it the way it is.  You play either on a "Select" (Premier) Team and compete in one of several competitive leagues in the area or you play in our Development Program.

Our Development Program strives to create formidable and talented soccer players to eventually play on our "Select" competitive teams.

FEES:  WHAT TO ASK TO COMPARE AMONG CLUBS

When comparing services and fees among clubs and what is included, you should ask the following questions:

  1. Will the team have a professional coach?
  2. Will the professional coach be at all the training sessions?
  3. Will the professional coach be at the matches?
  4. How many days per week does the team train?
  5. Is there an additional fee players are charged to train an extra day with the team?
  6. What is the per season player fee?
  7. What does it include (i.e. practice jersey, game jerseys, socks)?
  8. If not, how much are the game jerseys, shorts and socks?
  9. Does the season fee include winter training or is that an additional fee?
  10. What local competitive league does the team play in?

The only way to compare program fees and services is to ask these questions.

As we've explained on the home page, our fees are simple, direct and straightforward.
